Col Fawcett and Z

I thought you might enjoy this photo of Colonel Percy Fawcett shortly before he vanished.

You can read more about the book Lost City of Z in this Telegraph article.

This is the man Pitt will reportedly portray, for those unfamiliar with him. I recommend you also read Lost Trails, Lost Cities by Bryan Fawcett and the book by
Ian Fleming's brother Peter Fleming, Brazilian Adventure, about his own search for Colonel Fawcett.

Great stuff!

I found the new book disappointing. It's fine for people who've never heard of Fawcett, but if you've read Lost Trails, Lost Cities and Fleming's funny Brazilian Adventure (which I join in recommending) or relevant chapters from Childress's works you won't learn much new. Nothing much about the cold lights, the giant creatures, or even Z itself, which interests most of us. I don't really see what the fuss is about except that most reviewers probably never even heard of Fawcett.

That's disappointing to be sure, considering the movie that is being made from it. I now wonder if Pitt's playing Fawcett or 'the author'. My concern with the movie is if they'll spin Fawcett as a fool. How'd the book play it...?

I have read Exploration Fawcett and am in the process of reading Fleming's Brazillian Adventure. Haven't read Grann's Lost City of Z yet, but perhaps I will next.
I get the impression that the film made from Grann's book will be like Indianna Jones as the roumor is Brad pitt, who is staring in the lead, wants to do this type of film. I suppose we will just have to wait and see and hope it dosen't turn out to be another dissapointment fron Hollywood.
I agree, we all went to read about the Lost City, what the glowing lights were that never went out, etc. That would make a great book or film.

There is no getting away from it, the Fawcett story is fascinating. It's sad in a way that if the expedition returned safely without finding the Lost City of Z, Fawcett may have been forgotten, However, with their disappearance they have in a way, been immortalized, capturing the imagination of many as to what happened to them.
While looking for news about Fawcett I stumbled across a new book about Fawcet that continues his journey to the Lost City. It is called Amazon Adventure. For those who are interested here is the link: http://www.fawcettadventure.com

From the Fawcett Adventure web site:
The date is 1925

The location is the Amazon Jungle.

Colonel Percy Fawcett, his son Jack and close friend Raleigh Rimmell, are looking for a lost City rumoured to be hidden in the unexplored regions of the cannibal inhabited jungle.

Dead Horse Camp is situated at the boundary of unexplored territory. Ahead lay the unknown, danger, and perhaps a Lost Civilisation.

The three explorers enter the jungle never to be seen or heard from again. Until now!

Present day - New information that reveals what befell the Fawcett expedition reaches the civilised world. A team is put together to travel to the Amazon jungle. Their task is to unravel the mystery and find the Lost City of Z.

But the journey to the Lost City is just the beginning. Inside lurks danger and a secret those guarding it will kill to protect. Survival will not be easy, escape impossible.

Just came across this website about a new book about Colonel Fawcett. From what I can gather it continues Fawcett's journey to the Lost City of Z. It is called Amazon Adventure by Ben Hammott. I have just ordered Hammott's previous book about a Lost Knights Tomb he found in France by solving clues in an old church. It has had very good reviews so I am looking forward to reading it. For those who are interested here is the link to the Fawcett website, it has a great design, and some blurb from the website:

I also added it to my name url so you can just click it.
